I see what you are talking about, but I also see something on the 10th star, or is that just a ding/dirt?
Without a look at the edge (3rd side) at this point I'll go with a cud. Nice coin. I'm thinking an XF-40 coin with strike weakness on the banner on the reverse. I think the wear is not so great as to push it down to the VF-30 or -35 range. Wear on the hair may be a bit much but the rest of the grading details say XF to me.
The closeup makes it clear - it's a cud. Hopefully I'll remember to check with Mr. Overton tonight and verify !
Not till 1836. http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cach...+half+dollar"+collar&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us "Bust Halves, as they are commonly known, were originally produced with a lettered edge which read fifty cents or half a dollar. In 1836, the close collar was used for the first time on half-dollars, producing a reeded edge and coins of a uniform diameter." Take care Ben
You Make The Call... Here is an unusual 1833 CBH in EF-40ish condition with an apparent (Cud/Planchet Lamination Issue/Rim Ding) just by star 13. What do you make of it??? I'm thinking other. A planche lamination issue or something like that. Take Care Ben
