I picked up this neat little AV 1/4 Dukat ND (1700) GFN Klippe
This was struck at Nurnberg Mint for the Imperial City of Nurnberg
which was under the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I
    obverse: Pascal Lamb
reverse: Arms of Nurnberg lf - 2019-04-30T220535.666.jpg lf - 2019-04-30T220550.459.jpg

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy seeing your new acquisitions. You have quite the eye for historical, interesting, and quality specimens.

Thanks for sharing, @panzerman. Never seen this type of square-shaped gold coin before. The obverse lamb is so cute. :cat:

I had that one on my watch list but chose to bid on other lots.

@panzerman I love looking at your acquisitions...and I get the gold theme, and I get the 'totally awesome and some amazing historical coin' aspect too. Do you have a specific theme though? My guess would be a quest for as many high quality and varied gold coins as you can get you hands on. Gorgeous!

And do you crack the slabbed ones? I've seen your raw coin album photos and was curious.

And, do you keep a website or online catalog anywhere? You aught to go buy ThePanzermanCollection.com or something and do a simple(ish) website so other people can drool over your collection. It would be neat to virtually see them all laid out together.

    Super collection!!!

@Spark1951 in this context AV is like 'Au' which is the chemical symbol for gold. Not quite exact as AR is short for Argent (French for silver, and Ag is the chemical). AE is for bronze coins/medals. It took me awhile to figure this out in some catalogs.

AV stands for gold coinage/ AR=silver. In auctions they use more often AU=Aurum:)

    Thank you Stork:)

Actually, I just collect everything from 650 BC to present. I only accomplished one thing in my collection, that I have at least one AV coin for all 27 centuries of coinage. I have presently about 850 gold coins, 250 are "slabbed" rest I bought from auctions as raw graded. However, European/ UK coins are graded very strict/ a GEF=MS-62/63/64 while a "mintstate"=MS-66/67. I also have 5 Platinum/ Paladium coins. I have never removed a coin from slab holder/ I like them since one can safely handle coins in slab. I am one of these collectors that never touch any of my coins.....
Yeah, it would be fun to create a website for my stuff, but alas I am not tech saavy:shame:
