O.M.F.G. Are you kidding me ?!?!??? I'm gonna shoot myself in the head here! (just a figure of speech.) I bow to you! I mean come on! Here you are taking PERFECT images millions of light years away, and I can't even get a clear, in focus picture of my little coin, that is only 1 foot away from me!!!

I could find myself doing many things, before the rods and screws were installed in me, like hunting, fishing , drawing and up until last year,,,,,, let me do the math here. I started playing drums when I was 9. That would have been in 1972, and that means that I have played a double bass 10 piece Ludwig drum kit for 45 years. But had to hang it up after a 4 level fusion. So I'm kind of limited to just coins and my 3 adult daughters and 5 grandkids. That's more than busy enough. HA

 

Sorry to hear that. Back problems can really ruin quality of life very quickly. Hopefully you can get back to drawing and enjoying the outdoors again.

 

I will be properly photographing my 1899 Cuba stamp collection soon,but in the meantime just to wet the appetite, here's a little teaser....the 1899 three Centavos stamp sitting in my stamp album.

It was printed in the US and supplied for use during the first American occupation of Cuba from 1899 to 1902.

 

@Wal888 lovely stock certificates. I wish companies would still send you certificates, but these days it's all digital data.

I was really bummed out too when the government stopped issuing physical government bonds and switched to an online account for which you have to provide so much intrusive and needless information to the government that I gave up on it and stopped buying bonds.

 

Although I collected stamps peripherally as a kid I never really got into them. I do still have my grandfathers small collection of Mexican stamps from the 1890's and earlier:

 

Very cool @Ken Dorney . Those look lovely. Your grandfather definitely had a good eye for interesting stamps.

As for me, still not sure if I'm going to do a general Cuban collection from colonial era to 1959...or if I'm just going to stick with American made stamps for their various occupations of Cuba, then move on to American made overprint stamps from their early period of the occupation of Puerto Rico, and perhaps American occupation of the Philippines stamps. The later would definitely be the ultimate postage tribute to late 19th century and early 20th century American imperialism. Some may think that's not a very politically correct subject to collect, but personally as a Caribbean person who is a US Citizen, I find that period of history fascinating.

 

So embarrassed, but when I went to look for the space stamps, I couldn't find the little envelope where I had them with the colorful prayer cards. They are around here somewhere - and I'll find them and get them to you. One has to do with the first Moon landing. That is the most special one. I have some other stamps I would send along also. Anyway, I'll message you as soon as I put my grubby mitts on them. Thanks for your patience, Sallent

I see some unscrupulous eBay sellers trying to sell them to unsuspecting buyers for $5 to $20 USD. Which is probably why I don't have one yet. Honestly, these were saved in bulk by people due to the excitement around the moon landing, so there's millions out there. No reason why this stamp should cost more than $0.65, except for the vultures on eBay wanting to prey on people's ignorance.

 

You do now. This morning after reading this thread again I pulled down a box full of my old stamps (and my grandmothers collection as well). Back in the 70's and 80's I was a huge space nerd and collected a number of space themed stamps. It was fun to look at them again and re-live a bit of my childhood but these are better off with someone who will appreciate them a bit more than I do (which is not at all anymore I suppose). So, PM me with the address you want them sent to and I will post them. Below is a teaser. They are from all over the world, some used, some new, some first day covers, etc.

 

Oh my, I am speechless. I don't know what to say @Ken Dorney except to thank you for such generosity. I know I'll love them, but most importantly, my son will love them. He is an even bigger space nerd than I am. At age 8 he can already name all 12 of the moon walkers, and can tell you about each type of manned spacecraft used by the US. I know he will be absolutely "over the moon" when he sees these.

 

Anything one can do to encourage young minds is a good thing. At the last coin show I did there were a lot of kids there (highly unusual) because of a Scouting thing. I think I gave away more coins than I sold! I've given away thousands over the years.

 

I've received a few gift coins from you before, and as my collection grows I've had the opportunity to pass some of them as gifts on to younger collectors to encourage them to research and collect (in much the same way you once inspired me to research and collect when I was newer to the hobby). Thank you.

 

Yep..that would be the one...and i believe ...i believe it is a specially canceled stamp by the Post office on a special envelope? Ohhh and i just remember that i also had one or two holographic space stamps built into an envelope i got at post office years back. WHere IS that orange colored long envelope. I'll find it!!
