If my coin is a proof 1964.Then why do the markers from my coin match up with the 1964 sms.It has the markers from the O and G on the obverse, and the die scratches on the reverse.I did not get this coin in circulation. It was put away for a very long time. Its not mirror like, more like a satin finish. You can see on the reverse it has the downhill die scratch like the sms,in the pillars.
The dot in the O of "GOD" may match but that's all I'm seeing. I hope you have one but you will need better images of all the markers to show it.
Thank you .What I understand is no pre clashed coins were examimed. This coin has the main marker the Dot in The O and the horizontal line on the bottom D.Now did the mint use the same Die for the 1964 proof and the 1964 sms? You cam see the scratches on the reverse very slightly.
It still isn't a cheap submission. I would like to see some clear full size photos of both sides. The photos given aren't doing it for me. There is no reason to waste money on a coin that is only a proof.
The reason I posted this was if it's a proof then why do the markers on the obverse match with the sms.Weve compared other 64 proofs and none have those markings. Thanks for your reply. Now do you have an answer for that. Why do they match up.
Heres a picture of a proof its not a match. This guy I've been talking to has been collecting for 35 years says it's a pre clash
When someone decides to start multiple threads, it is usually because they didn't like the answers in the first. Just send it in already. Your photos aren't helping your cause. Good luck.
a pre clash?? so he's saying the coin was struck before the dies clashed? which would make it a normally struck coin..and what relation does a clash have with an sms coin?
I only posted 2 threads. The only thing I wanted to know was why do they match up.But didnt get an answer.I will send it in.The picture is clear enough to see the markers on the obverse. thanks everyone for your replys
Truthfully, I think I see a proof. With the die markers, they may exist on the SMS but that also doesn't mean they don't exist by some portion on other dies. They were, after all, created from the same hubbing process. Only a handful of SMS coins were minted. Does that mean they used different dies ? They probably used the same dies for the SMS then later used them in circulated coins. But we'll probably never know the answer to that. https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/strike-type-definition-768693 I don't know the answer to that, and you are not getting the answer you want here. So you are probably best to submit your cent to PCGS, ANACS, etc.
