I was out in my back yard digging a post hole and I got 4 or 5 scopes. and I hit an old cement fence post so now I start digging a bigger hole to get the old log and concrete out ....as I was digging around the old post
It had 2 walls attached to it one going north and other going west my son came out and we started digging out the corner we found this and other things IMG_20190428_195811.jpg Its full of what ever.....the lid is fully in tact we found this like 5+ feet down

Could have something to do with the original survey. Might have marked a corner of the property.

When people bury jars with stuff in them it may well be because they wanted to get rid of it. Perhaps it is something toxic. Unless it looks like money, best to bring it to a household hazardous waste facility.

Is there any chance you were digging where an outhouse once stood? A lot of folks over the centuries found the one- or two-holes a great spot to toss small items they didn't want, because, once-filled, they just moved the outhouse to a different spot.

I think the real clue is the "5 feet down." Hard to imagine how something could get buried that deep without it being an old outhouse, but I'm open to other theories. If you dare to open it, do so with nitrile gloves and a face mask. The jar might be collectible, even though the cap is a lost cause. Does the bottom of the jar have any writing?
