These pictures are horrible..... but trust me, it is atleast MS64, and has beautiful toning with all the full steps. I know this because I looked under a magnifier glass. Is it really worth that much? Also, it is Proof Like, maybe even a slight pure proof, but I dont know...
Hey Ryan, I really can't tell by the pics, but it looks more like a proof strike, than a business strike, but I may be wrong. See if your camera has a macro setting (look for a button with a flower on it, or go to your menu and look for macro) then set your camera on your lowest quality. Then you should be able to take good close pics. I think it's madatory for proof Jefferson nickels to have Full steps, along with proof Franklin Halves to have FBL. But, if it's a Business strike, then you might have a good keeper. :thumb: Phoenix
By looking at the coin, it isn't as proof as you think. You have to have it at a certain angle to get a mirrored look, but comparing it with a real proof is far from it. It maybe a great business strike, or a PL. I took pictures, and yes I know it does look proof, but trust me... it isn't. You can't see all the steps in the photo, but believe me, they are ALL there.
When dealing with FS nickels, the prices between grades vary dramatically , an ms64 may go for 100 while a ms65 goes for 2000. If you really think you have a very high grade FS nickel, it could have a nice premium on it, if you wanted to sell, it would be worth sending in for grading. BUT, you have a great resource right her on CT and better pics for people here to look at could save you time and money!!!! PCGS reports a pop. of 7 ms65 FS for 1958, not much more than that for non FS , with ms65 being the top grade assigned for this year.
Okay, by looking at the nickel closely, I would say it is MS 62 - MS 64, but I know it is important to know exactly, so you guys please be the judge. The hptos aren't that good, but all the stairs are there and it has a beautiful shine. I scanned it on my scanner, and I don't know why it turned out dull, but it does have a shine.
Just to show it has a shine.... Yes, there is a fingerprint, but the real coin does not have it that big and noticeable. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee59/ryanbrooks11/DSC04749.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee59/ryanbrooks11/DSC04748.jpg
A 1958 FS certified by PCGS in MS 65 might fetch $100+ but can not tell by your photos if yours is FS and I don't believe it to be MS65 and the fingerprints is a big, Big, BIG negative to a collector. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the hunt.
