Hi Not much to go on I know, but if anyone has any idea what this coin is I’d appreciate it please? Am trying to research/catalogue some recently inherited coins. Thank you in advance.
It is a rather damaged British halfpenny from 1799. The bad news is that in that condition, it is worth only about $1 USD or less as-is. It is a very common type, and even in Fine (F12) grade, it would be only a $5-6 coin. This particular coin would grade Poor (PO01). Here is the NGC/Krause catalog entry for the type (KM647). The good news is that it is a genuine 220-year-old coin with the portrait of King George III on it, so it might have some interest as a curiosity to someone interested in that period of history.
PS- if it is closer in diameter to a US cent than a quarter, then you have a 1799 farthing rather than a halfpenny. Though the date is not fully readable on this one, it's easy to attribute to 1799 because it's a one-year type.

You have the larger halfpenny, then, which is not surprising since they're a bit more common than the 1799 farthings, I believe. Since it is already harshly scrubbed, there would be no harm in carrying it as a "lucky pocket piece" or using it in jewelry or a similar craft project. 'Tis common and cheap (<£1), but fun nonetheless.
If you were located in the U S you could sell the sizzle and boost the value by calling it a War of 1812 battle relic war trophy.
