I was proud to see a news article about my dealer leaving hundreds of old coins all over the area today. What the article mentioned that I did not know is this is National Coin Week..... Heck, I didn’t know we had a National Coin Week.
I just used a bunch of older coins (silver quarters, dimes and half dollars) and some older lincolns (<1970) to pay for our subs at lunch in Indy. I told them I had to 'get rid of some change'. Fingers crossed someone gets interested in collecting.
Vending machine rejected one of my Buffs! Should have thought ahead and brought an extra. Had to get the Wheat Thins. :-/
My dealer buddy is putting out five hologram coins. He sent me this handsome young budding numismatist that just showed up with the first one. I love this hobby.
My dealer buddy is giving a coin valued up to a hundred dollars for the lucky youngsters that find them.
Deposited the remainder of my goodies. Local school mascot is a cougar and they have paw prints painted on the walkway to the school entrance. Each paw print has a goodie on it. My work here is done.
I am afraid that most cashiers will more than likely put any change aside for themselves instead of giving it to customers.
I released $20 worth of proof half dollars, quarters, dimes and nickels from the 70s here in Paso Robles, CA wine country.
Or one can make multiple selections up to $100 in merchandise (At least this is what some dealers are doing).
You'd be surprised. I was. I'm two for two, neither cashier even looked at the change or cared because they were too busy.
I ended up giving the coins I was going to leave on my travels to an 8 year old boy who was interested in a coin collection that his great aunt owned. He was thoroughly excited and happy.
Yeah....I know....Hopefully they will notice them later....I had something like that happen to me too....I had been going to my bank to exchange my rolled coins for their rolled coins...I always tried to get this one cashier who was an older lady and extremely nice to me every time I got her....It was almost Christmas and I went into the bank for more rolled coins and I had to wait a little to make sure I got the nice old lady cashier and once I did, and she ended up giving me my exchanged rolled coins, I gave her a 1899 Indian head cent and told her " Merry Christmas"....She smiled at me, took the coin and put it in her pocket and told me to have a Merry Christmas too...I left there shaking my head cause I could not believe what had just happened...I mean...Not even a thank you?..??...Oh well, what ya gonna do?..Move on.
