Homemade Lincolns...SCARY !!

With permission, I have "borrowed" these pics from a forum member on another site. I think they need to be posted here because it is so scary and to give you all a heads up.

These are 2 Lincolns, both homemade from homemade dies. While they are of low quality, they are high enough quality to fool those on Ebay who are bargain hunting, just "fuzz" up the pics enough, and they look pretty darn good.

Look at the lettering, the spacing and inconsistant size is a tell, and on the 09-SVDB, the S is not even close. This will not stop some shysters, we have seen fakes much worse than these.

The quality is not that poor. With the quality of eBay pictures, I will bet they fool a lot of buyers. The devil of it is that these will be getting better as technology advances.

Yep. Those would fool a lot of buyers. That '09-S VDB looks pretty good - good enough to fool a LOT of novices and a fair number of experienced buyers.

    Are these modern counterfeits?

    Are they struck or cast?

Do you know how the dies were made?

Do you know where these coins were made?

actually, your right, they are pretty good quality the more I stare at them, I imagine they would fool many a collector not into the Lincolns like us.

Man, Man, Man, I'm serious, that's worthy of letting the Federal Law Enforcement Authorities know about.

    Scary.

Two coins I don't own and two coins that I would want in a reputable slab.

I just hope one of their fakes don't wind up in a museum!

The second one definately seems like a better fake to me. The weird die crack on Lincoln's face, combined with the inexplicable small pits on the obverse and reverse seem to be a dead give away.

That 09 SVDB is going to fool many people. But it won't fool the Cointalkers now. Thanks, Jack.
