So for my next crazy canuckian question... nevermind... it’s a snow day, going back to bed.

From another thread and post you may recall me mentioning about my 1970 S American proof set and how I busted open the holder. I’ve been buying Canadian uncirculated sets in this one particular type holder. I’m liking the idea of all my sets going into one of these, although and despite you maybe horrified as a master collector and ostracize me from the community, lol.

    My inquiry...
    Which way does Lincoln face?

If I load the holder like the Canadian sets, the holder is upside down and Lincoln looks away, pic one.

If I load it the other way, the holder is right side up and everyone faces Lincoln but is this sacrilege?

The holder packaging, btw, did say 1970 American and I got a sticker to place over the Dollar area.

Why is it... the reverse of the Canadian is the display side and the obverse of the American is?

"Pic 1" is the preferred method. You see, JFK, Georgie, FDR & Jeffie didn't like Abe because he cheated at cards.

Lol. Nevermind... I should drink more coffee before I post anything. A smack upside the head should do it. My excuse, the snow threw me for a loop.

Personally, I'd display things left to right as I would read a book. As in denominations increasing left to right. But however you prefer to display it sounds good to me. lol

I was planning a hunt at the flea market today. The longjohns are already packed away, you see my dilemma.

Ima dingbat, lol. But this did bring up a question I had rolling around awhile and I’m sure it’s Google-able but, procrastination right, lol, why is Lincoln not struck facing the same way or, why is nobody facing the way Abe is?

Some things are just random. I dont think it was purposely done one way or the other. Lincolns bust for the cent was done in 1909. The Barber motif around the same time also was facing the right. But the Mercury dime which came out in 1916 faces left. Think it comes down to the original designer's preference if I had to make a guess. No rhyme or reason. The nickel and quarter re-designs came out in the 30s and it's possible they decided to continue with the busts facing left after that for the sake of continuity I suppose.

Interesting question. I never gave it a thought, but it does make sense to me that Lincoln should face the same as our other coins. Maybe the next redesign.

Look at a copy of the Redbook. You will see that most if not always when the design changes the orientation of the head on the obverse changes. indian cents faced left; lincolns face right. barber coins faced right and the coins that replaced them face left except quarters that went from right to front to left.

Lincoln got shot on the left side of his head. Maybe that's why Brenner showed the right.
