Need help again..... what do you think masters.....this is harder then I thought it would be. I tried to get pics with as little glare as p;possible but its hard with these newer coins
To minimize glare you want the light to be at about 45 degree angle. Be in a bright room to begin with too (many for some reasons find the darkest room). If there's a direct glare, for example from a lightbulb use a blank sheet of white paper to "diffuse" it and soften the light. you did a good job though showing the "creeping" of the letters towards the edges. the question is if this is from the mechanical motion going on from deterioration or from the actual die creation. I think the extension of the letters is from the mechanical "chatter" of the die pressing down, and not DD. But some stuff like this is confusing, so let some experts input too ... @furryfrog02 here's a webpage of machine doubling on Cents .. https://errorvariety.com/OFD/MD.html
Awesome advice thank you I will try your suggestion I hate trying to look at coins that give off just a strong glare
The V, E and S in Roosevelt was more where my focus was the letters seem to have that split everyone talks about but I am still new so I am uncertain about what that actual split looks like in person
from now one you should identify *exactly* what you are looking at and asking about. Otherwise, you leave it to everyone to guess ... but those do kinda look split to me with an arc to the split letters. Would need better pictures at an angle to those. Although .. looking at the rest of the coin might also be an indicator of what those are doing. I was trying to check VarietyVista but the one page I landed one doesn't have any active links ...
Looks to be mechanical doubling. Since that design element is incuse the doubling will make it look expanded. I am terrible at explaining and am on my phone right now so I cant get my links...but if you search “incuse machine doubling” that should be a good start.
and it would be DDR as you are inquiring about the reverse of the coin not the obverse which would be DDO...fyi
