It's been a long time since I posted on this forum. I used to be a regular here a few years ago. But haven't followed this site for a while. This week however something pretty cool happened that I know some of the members on this forum will appreciate. I was visiting my 80 year old father with my kids. We travel up to see Grandpa every other month or so. It's about a three hour drive. One of our favorite past times is to play poker with him. I had forgotten to bring the poker set with chips. So after we took him to dinner at a local diner in the DC area, I asked the owner of the diner if I could buy some change from him so we could have something to play poker with. I bought a roll of quarters, a roll of nickels and a roll of dimes for $17. I gave him a $20 bill and he gladly gave the three rolls of coins plus 3 $1 bills in exchange. So imagine my surprise when I get back to his place and we crack open the roll of quarters. I was expecting to see the usual assortment of clad quarters. The first one I look at seems to have a clear silver edge. I'm thinking to myself, "Cool, I might have found one silver quarter in this roll. But then I notice that every quarter appears to be silver. The whole roll is silver except for one coin which is a 1976 Bicentennial commemorative quarter! There are 35 pre 1965 90% silver quarters, 2 Standing Liberty Quarters with the dates worn off, one 1976 Bicentennial commemorative quarter and a couple of clad quarters in the roll. Not a bad find!
Wow what a huge score. Welcome back. I remember you. how have you been ? still collecting coins ? silver ?
Wowza! What a score. I would have driven back to the diner! And I'm glad you do the drive to play cards with Grandpa. My father died four years ago at almost 92 in Erskine, MN. When my son would come to visit me in Moorhead, MN, he insisted we make time to drive a couple hours north to play 3-handed pinochle with Dad. When he died (as the result of a car accident) he was still an extremely sharp player, amazing my 40-year old son with his ability to say things like, "You might as well play your ace of spades." My son and I treasure those times. You will, too, someday (perhaps you already do). You have a unique memory now from getting that quarter roll. Steve
Thanks Spirityoda. I've been doing well. I haven't been actively collecting for a while. I sold off most of my collection a few years back. Except for the ancient coins. I kept those. That's mostly what I was focusing on for the last several years. Great to hear from you again.
I am glad you are doing well. The great thing about coins is that there are some many different kinds of coins to choose to collect. Glad you kept the ancients.
I never get that lucky... I will one day....one day. Congratulations on your finds! My heart would of popped right out of my chest finding this. Good job
