Ive been trying to find nice pics showing what a IKE type1, type 2, and type 3 look like. THe ones Im comparing it to make me think that the one I got is a type 2. Is it??? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
There is a web site called jmscoins. Mostly the guy on that web site is IKE nut or specialist. If he doesn't know, no one does.

You really need those in hand to tell. But from the photo, the continent outline is all wrong - I'd say it's either a 1 or a 3 - can't see the islands well enough to determine... EDIT: Actually, I would bet it's a Type 1 based on the earth outline
Pocket Change is right, the outlines of the Earth don't look right for a type 2. The other feature to look for in a type 2 is the crater right above the letters "LA". If there are other craters in the big one, then it is not a type 2. A type 2 has that crater smooth along the base and rims of the crater. Looking at the 2nd picture enlarged, it appears that there are other craters in the main one. Also picture 4 (with your fingers) appears to show a single island under Florida. This looks like a type 1 or 3 with excessive wear in that section of the coin. On a type 2, the islands below Florida are actually missing, they are a groove in the coin going SE away from the tip of Florida. It's hard to tell for sure with the pictures, but I don't think you have a type 2 here. If you have a coin store near you and they have the IKE book from Wexler, Crawford and Flynn, they show good pictures in the book of this variety. If you have a 1972S, look at it, this is the same reverse as the type 2.
