1946 D wheatie mint error or intentional damage ?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Nick Chiappetta, Apr 24, 2019.

  1. Found this penny and i don't know what really happened to it but I've seen the spooning and Its not that. The edges are smooth but not the exact same circumference all the way around. I've even made a ring if anyone is interested in something like that. Maybe wrong planchet ? But, I think if it's not a mint error than someone got bored with some tin snips. Lol. Idk what do y'all think ?? Thanks to all....

Many years ago folks would shave down cents to the size of a dime. The old vending machines would take them as a dime.

you can see who ever grinded it down didn't make it round.

People make guitar picks too out of coins by grinding them down to various shapes but always tend to get rid of the rim as a string snags on it..

Why would you hold any coin with an alligator clip? You WILL damage the coin.

  11. I'm sorry what would you recommend me to hold it with to help while photographing? To be honest though I didn't alligator deathgrip it . Lol I barely had it in there. But , seriously , recommendations?

    Hemostats maybe ?
