Latest two additions for the 3-Cent Silver collection. The 1853 I've had for sitting around for years, so sent it in to ANACS for slabbing. Bought the 1871 because of the proof-like quality. Too bad it wasn't designated as such as the reverse falls a little short. I think the obverse would definitely qualify though. For the year 1871, it isn't easy to distinguish proof strikes from circulation strikes.
Interesting grade on the '52 - dinged for the reverse is my bet, the slight item in the C at about K4 and the "fins" aren't well defined (vs. the '51)
Latest addition to the collection. I'm not usually a fan of dark toning, but the gold centers and and blue trim sold me on it.
Nice... someday I'll see a fully struck example w/o the weakness in the flat star outline at K7 and probably fall off my chair
If I see one, I'll let you know because if one exists, it will be way out range for what my budget allows.
I'll toss in a ringer, a Feuchwanger three cent piece. This was the most common type. Here is one of the "almost" Proof only dates.
Only ones I have and they just showed up in a Lot I was bidding on. Both in poor shape. Holed and repaired, cleaned 1853
I love the holed & repaired one, even though it is cleaned - very cool to see & thank you for sharing it. Much respect.
The only 3-cent piece I've got is an 1852 po-1. At least it was only $1 I think I lost about 97 cents on it!
