Coincidentally I picked up this one yesterday as an upgrade to my 1887 Young Head Threepence. The Jubilee head version is much more common and I have had a pretty average condition Young head in my set until now.

I picked these up while in Madrid on vacation. I would have liked a more clean crown, but almost all of the coins in the shops around town were harshly cleaned and even though this 5 peseta is baggy, its original. I picked these 2 up which have original surfaces, but wish I could have found more of higher quality. The one peseta has almost prooflike surfaces. I had to take pictures with my cell so they arent as good as I would like them to be.

I doubt that my foreign coins rate those already shown. Mine are special because my Dad left them to me. I don't have a way to take pictures, but I can tell you what they are. I have two coins from India. A 1944 One-Half Rupee and a 1943 One Rupee. I have some Great Britain coins: 1922 One Half Penny, 1917 One Penny, and a 1938 Three Pence. I also have a New Zealand 1941 Bronze Penny. I have a bunch more, but they are more recent, but they are all in great shape. I've got a Canadian 1963 Penny that is "Red" and looks like it just came from the mint.

You can learn a lot about coins on this forum, and also a lot of history and geography. There are threads telling about photo set ups. I made my own out of a stick of wood and a wooden cutting board. Added a digital camera to all that wood, of course, and a 50 cent electric lamp. Lots of my coins are not very valuable like the proof gold and slabbed MS coins others post. I like mine just fine.

The best coins are those with a personal story! Many of the cell phones can take a decent photo. Use a stack of books to steady the phone, a cheap light, and a cheap remote trigger to reduce shake.

I don't have any newer coins at the moment (some on the way), but here is a mere medal. Don't know much about it, but it fit my mother/baby medal theme.

I put some major investment (for me) into these two in the last week - the 1746 LIMA Crown is my first George II Old head Crown, and the 1663 milled Half crown is the first year these were issued in his reign.

Ireland 1939 Half Crown, NGC MS-63
    Mintage: 888,000

This one came in the mail today and I just finished imaging it. Very clean coin with a sharp strike and nice luster. Difficult to find in high grades. NGC has six higher: five at 64 and only one at 65.

    Ireland 1943 Half Crown
Mintage: Unknown (~500 estimated to exist)

I bought this one a while ago but I don't think I've posted it here yet. The 1943 Half Crown is the second rarest of all the Irish coins from 1928-1968 (the 1943 Florin being the rarest). In the end of 1942 or the being of 1943, coinage had begun as usual at the London Mint, but before long the order was given to stop mintage of all silver coinage and send it back to be melted (due to the shortage of silver during the war). Somehow a number of half crowns (estimated at around 500) and an even smaller number of florins (estimated at around 35-50) escaped the melting pot and found their way into circulation. It would be several years before people realized the rarity of the 1943 half crown and florin and started to look for them in their change.

This coin is in an old ANACS holder and graded Fine Details. The coin has been cleaned, and there is graffiti on the reverse and the obverse. Definitely not a high grade example, but a very interesting coin nonetheless. I am proud to have it in my collection.
