Received this Beauty at a local 7/11 today. First silver cert that I’ve come across in circulation! If anyone could give me their opinions on grading I’d appreciate it. Looks at least VG to me.
Well congrats on the find it's in pretty good shape considering I would say it's in fine condition but I'm no expert on grading currency
I can't grade it for you but I can tell you most of the things that are wrong with it so that when someone who can grade it for you, does so, you'll know why you get the grade you get. 1) All 4 corners are damaged. The top left more than the others. 2) There is a serious crease top to bottom on the centerline. 3) There is a serious fold line across the top right corner. It's easier to see from the back. 4) There are wrinkles in several places on the note, notably across G.Washington's face. 5) There are some small areas of staining in various places on the note. 6) The edges of the note are ruffled and stained in various places. Now, even with all of that, it's a nice find for a "found in circulation" note. Here's a link for learning about when these notes were printed. And another link for learning about grading paper money. Nice circulation find, congratulations. Appears to be in Fine condition with even wear. I’d love to get an SC or LT at face value. Put it in a currency sleeve with a notation of date and place you got it for future reference.
It's always a thrill to find these still in circulation, good eye & congrats! @Hookman identified the problems with it, but it is still worthy of a place in your collection. Remembering the thrill of catching it in the wild will be a gratifying memory!
Possibly a Great American Coin Week release? I am putting one in circulation today, along with a number of wheat back and steel cents.
1957 and 1935 Silver Certificates are very common (not in circulation) evidently someone was short of cash and dipped into their coin/bill collection. Average price for 1957/1935's in good condition like yours is $2.00 - $3.00 (except on Ebay, they are over priced)
