1896-O Morgan- how would you grade?

The majority of my collection to this point has been foreign coins, and I am recently starting to get into Morgan Dollars. Yes, I know I may be a bit late to the party. In any case, I've recently picked up this 1896 O Morgan which most of what I'm researching calls one of the key/semi-key dates, and I was hoping to get some opinions on it from you fine folks.

The obverse has some beautiful toning, while the reverse is still all silver. Comparing it to some graded Morgans I already own in the MS 63-64 range, the toning looks natural and both obverse and reverse have a beautiful full luster and nice looking surfaces. I took a second, picture of the obverse without light or flash to show a little more detail of the coin and engraving as well.

Let me know your thoughts and thanks in advance.

Something looks off to me. The date in particular.

See that slash under the 6. I have a P mint that has that same mark.

I'll give it a shot and say a conservative 63.

MS 61, possibly. A couple of minor nicks, but, altogether a nice coin.

Low grade MS. I will say 62. Fields on the left side of the face have too much chatter, under the toning. Nice coin otherwise.

That "6" in the date just looks weird.

    If not a counterfeit, I'd say Au-58.

Something looks off to me too though it may be the pics. I’m at 62 if real

It's a Chinese counterfeit. The shape of the date digits is completely wrong.

You’re right. The surfaces look gritty. I should’ve gone with my gut that it was a fake.

It might be, as the date is strange looking. The spacing of the 96 looks odd, and so does their angle. I had said low level MS, but it might be low level MS made in China. If so, it is a good fake.

The strange looking date is something other that post mint damage. I would say counterfeit.

The good news- Confirmed authentic by NGC. The bad news, classified as details - Whizzed. Oh well, at least it looks nice.

Yeah I think the date is what has been whizzed - looks odd.
Figured it was a real coin as it has VAM-13 characteristics and an interesting die crack with die chip left side of bow. Nothing on vamworld though
Too much crossing chatter for my liking in the breast area … MS61 if it was gradable.
Good coin for a starter though cheers

The date looks off in the first picture, but OK in the second. It's amazing what camera angles can do.
