Low grade MS. I will go with 62. I see no wear, only contact marks. The coin is uncirculated.

8D4DC671-C562-4268-A748-64652CEC5D24.jpeg Well, here it is. Whoever guessed AU58 is correct. I was kinda bummed when i saw the grade; hoped for MS anything. Especially when i looked at other AU graded peace dollars.

The wear is pretty visible on the cheek and neck. I am glad to see that this wasn't graded MS.

Nice Peace dollar though well done Don P.

It's probably good for me to stay away from raw Peace dollars, or I'd be paying too much!

There are plenty of AU58's I'd pay more for than MS62's.

Thanks. I saw an MS...something, but I guess there are too many scratches.

Does anyone know what would determine a "+" or "star" designation?

A plus or a star is given to coins with great eye appeal. This is usually toning or a semi PL coin.

There was a checkbox on the grading form that for an extra $5-10, they would look into the star or "+" rating, but I already thought I spent enough and these grading companies love to nickel and dime you to death! :)

I paid $55 for the coin, so I figure spending an extra $35 for a shot at MS would be worth it.

    I saw a 58. Almost called it 55

I usually agree with your grading a lot. This coin, I think is a classic slider—the ole MS 58-AU 63 routine. lol

Well, what are my options at this point ? lol.

The coin will never be worth enough money I guess to try and regrade.

Naw, I would leave it just as it is. You could submit it 6 times, and I think it would come back MS 3 times, and AU 3 times. Attractive coin just as it is.

Your best bet is to send it to CAC and hope for a green bean.

How much is CAC for a coin like this? I glanced at their website and it looked kinda shady

I think it's $14 through an an accepted collector member. But if it doesn't get a bean, there is no charge. They are very quick - usually returned in a week.

Friction in the fields = AU58

In the old days, that’s an AU somebody would have tried to pass off as BU.

It really depends on how focal the rubs are.
