I bought an example of the following coin (same die pair) in March 2004. It was one of the few coins that I have bought that was lost in the post. I have been on the lookout for another example ever since and this one has arrived this week. Septimius Severus denarius Obv:– L SEPT SEVER PERT AVG IMP VIII, Laureate head right Rev– FORTA EDVC or FORT REDVC (R corrected from A), Fortuna seated left holding rudder and cornucopia Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 195-196 Reference(s) – BMCRE -. RIC IV - This coin comes from the early, easterm IMP VIII issue and comes from the sub-series with the longer form obverse legend of SEVER for SEV. The reverse legend looks as though it was FORTA EDVC, corrected to FORT REDVC. The FORTA REDVC legend (which is find most puzzling) do exist in this issue. Here are two reverse dies showing Fortuna as Hilaritas with different legend spacing both linked to the same obverse die. and a Fortuna seated similar to mine but all with the short SEV obverse. I have a few other SEVER coins but this is my first with the Fortuna reverse Share something you have waited a long time for.... or an IMP VIII SEVER coin if you have one....
Well, I didn't wait or search for 15 years, but I did search for several years for these three coins.
