    John Skelton Morgan man!

It was mentioned at one point that I should buy some 1921 Morgans. It happens that I do have them and wanted to share them here. The first coin I will show is the single 1921 Morgan that happens to be my avatar.

And I have two each of the 21D and 21S that I will post later.

Got some Die Cracks in that one. Nice coin.

As promised, here are the other 1921 Morgans I have. First up are the pair of 1921D coins. And I remind you that these were given to me. I did not buy them.

I don't know why the second coin is worse than the second. However, when I got these coins, they were not in 2x2s, and I have no idea how they were stored except loose when I got them. Once I learned about how to protect coins and had the necessary supplies, I fixed them up.

Actually I think the second coin is better. There is less wear on both sides and the first coin has a corrosion spot. It just toned a dark gun metal bluish black.

Really? I didn't think it would be considered toning. I do like the strike, but I certainly would not have bought it looking like that.

Just a dark toning. Not all toning is colorful.

The first coin, the 21 Philadelphia is a very attractive coin. The two 1921 d coins have absolutely no eye appeal whatsoever. I guess you didn’t get the message of getting one or two attractive coins, as opposed to a few stinkers. The first ‘21 is attractive. The other two are really ugly coins, even for free.

In 1921 it was time to recoin all the silver melted and loaned to the British.

Since the Peace dollar design wasn't approved and the dies weren't ready, the mint made a replacement Morgan master (more like 1878 than the 1904 master that had been destroyed).

And then for the next several years out poured a river of silver dollars. More focused on quantity than quality if you catch the drift...

You're right, I didn't get the message. I just figured for the time being I'm going to keep them while I go looking for other coins with the money I have saved. I imagine my son will want to keep them even if they are ugly, since his grandfather gave them to him. If I were going to buy coins in this year, I certainly wouldn't have bought the second coin. As it is, my son has told me not to sell any of the coins pending his approval. So I won't.

If you want to be a newbie who ignores advice, so be it. Junk coins do not a serious collector make.

He didn’t buy them. They were given to him.

If someone gave them to me, I would not consider them part of a serious collection. My standards are higher than collecting ugly, ungradeable coins.

He said his son was given these by his grandfather. He's holding them for him. I don't care how ugly a coin is if my grandfather gave it to me that is the most beautiful coin in the world.

Personally I like the dark Morgan and I've seen a lot worse looking coins.

They are still crap coins, no matter how one slices it. Lots of posts by the OP asking for suggestions, and still, he posts 1 good coin, and loads of junk bin level coins. Sorry, but that isn’t serious collecting. If you like it, great, but I would not waste my time on coins lacking in numismatic value, and then ask advice from serious collectors.

Look man, there is no need for this negativity. You don’t like them? That’s fine; you’ve made you’re point. You don’t need to say it over and over. Frankly, I couldn’t disagree with you more about what “serious collecting” is, and I don’t think any of us are truly qualified to tell someone what that is. I suggest you stop trying to chase away people on this forum who enjoy collecting. Unwatch the thread and find something better to do with your time, or apologize and pull your head out of your rear end.

I’m with Seattle on this one. If you don’t like it move on. You’re the only one wasting your time by replying. You could easily open the thread, look for two seconds and then close it. Some of my most cherished coins are “crap” because they’re what got me into collecting. They’re ones that were gifted to me by loved ones. To each their own.

It's amazing how addibg just one more chucklehead to the ignore list makes this a pretty sane thread.

OP shows off one nice Morgan and two low grade examples he received from his fsther. Says he knows they aren't much, but he put them in 2x2s and is saving them for his son (mementos of his grand father).

Everybody does the usual welcome, nods wisely at how passing some memories down the generations is a great idea.

Cue music and a sunset scene...

Don’t tell me how to behave, and don’t make any obscene references to what I should or shouldn’t do. Everybody has their idea about serious collecting versus uninformed, stubborn, foolish collecting is. I am not criticizing the collector—just the fact that he is collecting coins with no value, and then seeks attention and approval for doing so. Don’t like my responses? Fine—don’t read them. Being hostile to me doesn’t vindicate garbage coin collecting.
