Doubled ear, or PMD.

Meow has found at what a glance that looks like a doubled die portion of Lincolns ear. But on the other hand, I sort of looks like PMD. What do you guys think? The penny is very shiny, so it is a bit hard to photograph clearly.

So they are both plating bubbles? Even if they are both 2018s with no other issues or plating bubbles?

Looks like a die chip to me.

could be a die chip or a small bubble or plating issue.

OK, So it is something? Meow does not buy the plating issue thing. The two pennies have no issues like that anywhere. They are bright and shiny, and would be AU55 at worst.

Meow will try to find more. If Meow can, it would prove it is not a plating bubble. But dinner calls in Meow's tummy. We resume after Meow has had some chow.

Look to be die chips. You aren't going to find a truly "doubled" ear on newer cents based on the single squeeze method the mint uses now to make dies. ertainly nothing like the 84P DDO. At least that it my opinion.

And, 100 years from now they might be worth 50c if they haven't disintegrated completely because they are "CRAPPY ZINCOLNS!"

Have it slabbed in the newer and improved zincolnator slab*. One guaranteed to keep it looking like it was just minted regardless of what you do to the slab. Or you get a penny back.

Well I love die chips and cracks. I keep them all. I would keep that myself. If you are wondering if it has objective value you'd have to find the right person at the right time who wanted something that specific. That said, I think its neat and I'd keep it!

Just be sure to leave a note with your collection so that if, God forbid!, you should pass on that your heirs won't rush your hoard to the nearest coin dealer expecting a huge windfall.
