I've enjoyed collecting Jefferson medals for a while now. Just one of my many numismatic interests.

Our forum leader has a great new webpage with super pics and descriptions of his collection. :)

Hope he doesn't mind if I link to it. It's a beautiful collection, and needs to be shared.

It is indeed a remarkable collection of Jefferson medals/tokens! I had no idea Jason was into these other then Jefferson varieties. Congrats on such a wonderful tribute!

Thanks! It is certainly a fun little side collection. They are relitively inexpensive and the thrill of the "hunt" has been quite exciting! I am adding 3 more this morning and am waiting on about 4 more to arrive in the mail.

I bumped into the medals page before I found this forum and got hooked on collecting some of the medals. Spent a good many hours looking and bidding and won a few. Really a great asset to the fun of collecting.

Question: Is that a mint mark on TJ-008?

It is a neat part of numismatics to collect. I have since accquired about a dozen more that I need to add to the page. As far as TJ-008, yes that is a D Mint mark, however I am not positive of it's origin since there are soooo many peace medal reproductions.

I recently was the successful bidder in an assortment of tokens at $5.50. I bid because a TJ071 (1904 St Louis Lousiana purchase) was among them. The medal is in pretty rough shape. It has a hole at the top so precisionally placed that it looks like it came that way. Does anyone know if some originally came this way?

    Hi Frank,

I would have to guess that the token probably did not come originally with a hole in it. However, TJ062 (the gold Thomas Jefferson Dollar) came in many versions such as stick pins and necklace charms so it may be a possibilty; but I would bet that originally it came unholed and someone drilled the hole to wear it as a charm.

I kinda feel like the hole was later drilled. It only appears drilled so close to the top that it made me think that it might be original. If I were to drill the hole it would be lower and not so nearly exactly at the top.

I used the application on your site and rejoined FSNC and they gave me my old number back.

It looks like your numbering system is just a sequential one based on when you acquired a medal or picture. Are you considering another system? If so, could we discuss it, possibly off this net? OTOH, maybe others are interested in another numbering system. What do others think?

Glad to hear that you are a FSNC member again. As far as the TJ numbering system you are correct in that I just assigned the number as I accquired and photographed the pieces. I still have a dozen or more pieces I need to photograph and I am sure there are many more I need to obtain yet to add to the page. I do have plans in reordering the numbering system once my photos are complete but would certainly be interested in hearing your comments on the project. You can contact me privately if interested at j_t_wax@yahoo.com.

    Thanks.

Well I won an item on e-bay as a paperweight but I know it's a mint 3' Jefferson Medal.
I got a great price since the mint sells them for $38.00...and I got it for $1.25--I trust this seller a lot and even told him about this before I bid so he could pull the auction if wanted.

Well I'm glad I got it as it's my first 3' medal.
I have a compleat set of the medals up to Regan and need to complete it but haven't yet...

I recently purchased a mint medal of Thomas Jefferson (TJ008) with the "D" "mint mark". The lettering on the obverse seems extremely weak. Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone know where/why this medal was made?
