I'm going to a show today, and I've got enough cash to buy some generic world gold. I WAS going to wait until the big Denver show in April to buy, but gold has taken such a dip now...think I might as well get what I can while the price is low?
Buy gold only if you want to hold on to it for a few years! If you want to sell it in a few weeks... its risky (like anything else!)
The market should go a bit lower this next week, being a holiday week, no shocks in the system about the economy. But if Israel invades Lebanon during the first week of April, you will see gold shoot through the roof. Don't laugh, this chatter is running rampant all over the Middle East right now.
Wait and see where the prices fall on the early part of next week. With Good Friday holidays and no market action since Thursday, no one knows whre gold is right now.
Well, I didn't find what I wanted (Mexican gold 5 pesos, 1955 restrike - $113 at this weekend's $920 bid price), but I did find this, and I snapped it up after quickly cruising the bourse (this is NOT the actual coin, just an example): I'm actually having a little trouble with the full identification. The Krause number is KM 2810. Any extra info and pricing would be very much appreciated. I'm very happy with my second gold coin purchase, as this is a very neat little one-year type coin. It contains a little less than a 1/10th ounce of gold, and is either a high AU or low MS...I need to take a closer look with the loupe today. Anyway, the guy I was planning on buying from sells almost ALL his world gold right at melt, not melt + .15% or anything like that. If he HAD the coin I wanted, he would of sold it to me for $113 as I mentioned above, whereas the only other dealer selling that same coin at this particular show was asking $136 for it. As you can see, the other guy is a good guy to buy from. So, what'd I get it for? $90 even. Great deal in my books. I plan on holding on to all my coins for a very long time, and I try to stagger my buying when it comes to silver. However, when it comes to gold it's a matter of price and whether I have $100-$200 to blow on a single coin, and that does NOT happen very often. What do you guys think? :kewl:
^^^ That said you got a beautiful coin, congratulations. I'm looking forward to owning a gold coin or two myself one day but at the moment I'd rater spend that $100 or $200 or some nice high grade silver Washington's for my set. I get more bang for the buck...
Thanks! I have to say, it's hard to spend even $90 on a single coin when I know I could've bought 9 $10 crown-sized silver coins (which are some of my favorite kinds of coins to collect). To be fair, I did buy some silver on Saturday: a 1965 BU Canadian dollar for my type set ($10, less than melt!) and a Mexican 1979 100 pesos, again for my Mexican type set, for $13 (a little over melt, I think). If anyone can still provide me with a semi-current Krause value and/or any additional info, I'd be happy to hear it! Thanks for looking.
