Should I consider having this coin graded and encapsulated? And if so which service should I use ANACS or NGC ? Thanks, Don

Not sure if I've already welcomed you to the forum Don, but either way, welcome.
Why? For purposes of resale, or just to get someone's confirmation of your own opinion? If the latter, you can get opinions of other collectors without having to pay a TPG's fees, or giving up possesion of your coin for however long they take to get it back to you.
You don't have to send it to a TPG just to protect it. Do a forum search on "holder" and read some of the prior threads discussing the pros and cons of the various containers, including the much-praised Airtites, and Intercept Shield holders.

Well if I was going to get it slabbed I would go ANACS since it's cheaper. ($12/coin)
The front looks cleaned a little bit but the back doesn't so I might be wrong...hope I am.
I would leave it raw and maybe slab if your going to sell it.

Hey Speedy, The front and back are in the same shape. I was messing around with the lighting and background and the pic of the reverse did much better than the front. I don`t plan on selling it anytime soon but one never knows what the future holds or how high the cost of slabbing may go up as time passes.

Pointman, I'm also not exactly sure why you want to slab it, unless it would just be to confirm that it is genuine, but if you do, I'd use ANACS, because I believe the coin is lightly cleaned (both sides), so NGC will probably return it in a "body bag". Good luck.

Perhaps it is just the pics, but there is something about that coin that just doesn't look right to me. If it were mine - I would send it in to ANACS - for authentication if nothing else. If the coin is genuine - no harm done. If it is not - you can return it for your money back. There is no time limit for returns of counterfeit items.

Yea looks to purdy to my eyes also for its age  , I bet that beauty has been spanked (cleaned) sometime in its past--sad looks like a high grade--ANACS will grade it, slab it and tell she's been cleaned on da label, NGC will body bag it, tell ya she's been cleaned & return it, but either way, you will know whether it's authentic or not--
