First: Relax a bit i was only cracking jokes.. Seccond: I know 10 people or more that have been robbed at gun point in the past 2 years. Ask me if you think my comments are uncalled for?

I live in the greater Boston Area. Someone (REALLY) gets robbed here at gun point every other day in notevery single day some where with in 30 miles of me. I have raver blades super glues to the back side of my car cd player if that gives you any idea about the area I live in.

Another thing, The T-shirts are fine. I dont really think that any of us on this forum see any REAL problem with them or the idea. Its just a matter of not wearing them to say a ball game or out to Chinatown with your wife for some old time chinese food. I personally wouldnt wear a t-shirt like this other then while I was out on my boat fishing of maybe to bed. No offence to the person that designed the shirt. Just my personal opionion.

EDIT TO ADD: Yes a few of the people robbed at gun point owned nice coin collections. Main reason they got robbed DRUG ADDICTS, DIP$^!ts and just about anyone thats looking to make a quick buck.

I dont think anyone is being trully negative. I think most are just having a giggle. Its not like its a BAD IDEA. I mean I can see tons of wifes, son;s,doughters and grand kids thinking there a cool gift idea for some one they know that collects coins.

    T shirts and armed robbery

Negative comments? Not really. Sarcastic definitely but perhaps you should take them to heart. It's better than a bullet.

Now I happen to live very close to a high crime area so, like others, I may be a bit jaded. I'll admit that freely but isn't it better safe than sorry?

Criminals travel. I used to work for a contract mail hauler. Delivered from Gary, IN to Indianapolis. Used to stop at an all night gas station in Lebanon, IN for a sandwich on the way back. About 3 am when I'd get there. Off the beaten path, no security glass or anything like that. Just a lone cashier. Usually a woman.

A tragedy waiting to happen. Have had a few friends robbed at gunpoint while I was in the gas station industry. Took over a store where the assistant manager was shot and killed for $127. It happens man and advertising it isn't very wise in my opinion.

Had a friend in Iowa that used to hit the quad cities area for coins. At one point there was a lot going on there he told me. Criminals driving down I-80 from Chicago looking for easy targets.

Does this happen in "Mayberry"? Not often but it DOES happen.

I wouldn't wear a shirt like that if you paid me to. It only takes ONE bad experience so why tempt it?

Yes, better safe than sorry, but, we must draw the line between being safe and letting fear run our lives. A shirt like this one would be perfectly fine going around the neighborhood looking at garage sales and what not, but if you live in a higher crime area, a better shirt may be, " I LIKE STUFF" . Honestly, the op's shirt is no more of a target then wearing nice shoes or clothes or driving a nice car. Wear your shirt, don't let the criminals win!

I think it is a cool shirt... and something I'd wear daily, not just when out buying coins with my pockets loaded.

However, I prefer my artwork on the back.

How about Numismatist on teh front chest, and just the splash of coins all over the back.

    any how, nicely done.

I see your point Tommy but in the same token advertising does NOT help. It's not a case of letting criminals win as it were. Unfortunately, unless we all pack pieces, they will in that crucial moment. I prefer not to tempt fate.

I have done reposessions in housing projects in the past without a weapon on me other than a screwdriver. Not a comfortable situation but I was younger and dumber then. I've been to the hood too many times and eye contact was my biggest advantage. People just "figured" I was crazy so left me alone.

On rare occasions I do dress nice. I do this where everyone is dressed nice - not to go to a pawn shop in downtown Gary. If everyone wore "I buy coins" T shirts I might as well. I mean so many targets to choose from.

Bottom line is a shirt that advertises is still not a good idea IMHO.

Good points!! It's to bad our society has come to this.Maybe a good compromise for the shirt would be, "I Buy Coins, And Carry A Gun"

That is maybe the main thing that bothers me about coin collecting. Right now, I ain't got much to steal, but one day, I will and I'll probably have to lock it up somewhere. I'm not looking forward to that day, but I suppose it's a necessary evil.

As far as the t-shirt is concerned. I think the comments are a bit extreme, however, it is only fair to say that the t-shirt was initially presented as a way to "advertise" that you were a coin collector and hopefully people would come up to you with that unfound horde we're all looking for.

So, you do have to consider the "negative" publicity you might get too. The problem is that this shirt would probably be most often be bought by girlfirends, family members, etc. and not by the coin collector. Just a gift for that someone you don't know what to buy......

I personally wouldn't wear it anywhere and I'm here in AnyTown, Iowa.

Now I would ALMOST wear that shirt if I carried a gun and was REALLY fast on the draw! ;)

    You just described me.

Ha, I can tell you that the part of downtown Denver I live in (Capitol Hill), the police don't care, nor do they have the resources to stop what goes on.

My neighbors are dealers and the people who buy from them. When anyone walking down the street could be carrying blow, rock, and heat, you learn pretty quickly not to trust anybody.

Neat shirt idea, but I wouldn't wear it...too risky.

What town? I used to live in Waltham/Watertown. Living in downtown Waltham, I can attest that the Greater Boston area has a lot more crime than one would think. I bet someone's been robbed on the Pike in Newton during rush-hour at some point, even. :)

    Good eating there.

I lived in NYC(New York City) from birth until I was 35. I'm thinking thats a pretty high crime area. No one in my family and I mean cousins, sisters, aunts, nor I have ever been robbed or mugged there. Someone did glare at my uncle once. He paniced and ran home to hang himself. But thats it. I'd wear that shirt. Or one like it. It is a little tacky. So I'd tone i down a bit. But wouldnt be afraid to wear it. Maybe coucils in small towns should allow the cops to use thier billy clubs once in a while to keep those bratty kids in line. Watch. Tomorrow I'll get robbed of everything and have to sneak home with two trash can lids for clothes.

Ive seen Tshirts similar to this at coin shows ~ usually one of the stereotypical image of a hobo w/a sack on a stick alluding to making his fortune in coins. I've also seen another that reads 'will work for coins'. I'm on the fence on this one ~ I understand the 'not advertising you enjoy a hobby that involves cash' but non collectors encounter risk and harm every day. I think it'd be fun for wearing 'at' a coin show, then pull on a jacket or sweater when you go out in public. Have fun but be safe.
