Elizabeth Monroe arrived at my house today in the form of one Uncirculated and one Proof First Spouse gold coins. I still have not seen her husband. Other than their high price I am pleased with these coins. One reason for me to buy these particular coins is that my hometown in Georgia was named for James Monroe. I would like to collect the complete set of First Spouse coins but I am afraid rising gold prices will knock me out soon.
Here's some pics of the Monroe coins Here are pictures of the Monroe coins. I still think this is a beautiful series. I just wish it weren't so expensive.
I certainly agree with that. I was hoping back when the lesiglature was approving this series, that a provision would be thrown in for a silver component. The price of gold 100% excluded me from getting the whole set, and with the recent highs, even a single coin is too much. But i was hoping if a silver coin was authorized, i would be able to do that. No gold, and no silver authorized, means i will admire those whoe are lucky enough to get them, and post them here They are some very nice designs, and truly are very beautiful coins!
ts not expensive its rather cheap considering the price of gold and the premium charged over spot. it would be better if it was in one ounce sizes and all 4 were released to gether this buying againand again and waiting for the courier to arrive is nuts IMHO
That's not quite what I meant. They could have silkscreened each First Spouse image on the roof of a Porsche Carrera and charged $200 over invoice and that would be a good deal but it would still be expensive. Buying all the proofs and uncircs in this series is probably going to cost close to $50,000 assuming that the price of gold doesn't drop a lot. That's expensive to me although it might turn out to be a good deal. I agree with you there. Remember that the mint originally offered this as a four coin per year subscription?
a and after i suscribed they canceleld the subscription what a bummer. $50 for 10 years may be a lot but if you collect only the proofs or the unc then it wont be as much and you will have 25 oz of pure gold just think about it. brb back some auctions will close if i am not careful
ok i am back about 1500$ lighter and about another grand in the wood works now look at the crazy idea the min has come up with about the high relief saint gaudens i wonder how thta will be priced i hope it doesnt become an anuual feature
Just received my Monroes' today. The UNC is beautiful. The proof was less than stellar. I am sending it back. There appears to be two spots where there was a defect in the planchet. I guess I won't have to worry if the Mint will be able to replace it or not.
