Just found someone had put up a great resource for identifying what it is that makes a Kennedy Half 'accented'. http://www.compucheap.com/coins/misc/ahcomp.html Just images, but that's all you really need in this case. Enjoy Peter
Great site fr those Aceented hair halves. Russ on the PCGS message board maintains that site. Cameron Kiefer
There was a post on the PCGS message boards about the site and thought I would check it out. I liked the format (almost the same) and like talking about coins. I am still over there most of the time, but check out this site once a day. Cameron Kiefer
I recognize people from the PCGS boards and rcc. Maybe this is the board that brings those two different worlds together.
You know, Stujoe, I tried the PCGS boards and never really got into it. I enjoyed reading it, but I only made one post. I think I just didn't have the energy to get into a new large established group like I did with RCC. By the way, I did see in another thread where MB Biker mentioned that he (or she) came here from PCGS. I just hope this doesn't become another place where people come to rehash their same tired arguments in a new forum. You know what I am talking about. At least in a moderated forum they will not be able to resort to name calling!
I post at PCGS a little. I used to just lurk only but I just can't help myself. I am a blabbermouth at heart. Good people there too but a different focus than rcc. Every forum seems to develop its own flavor and that gives opportunities to learn different stuff. And I know what you mean...some baggage is best left at home and doesn't need to be taken on every trip.
Yes, i'm from the PCGS forum, i saw a signature that said the first 5 people that get 100 posts here get a free Silver eagle i don't know if its true but it's worth a shot
I am also a newbie at the PCGS forum, but mostly read. Most of the folks seem pretty nice, but it's just hard being a newbie on a forum - folks just seem to IG or ream you, altho I really haven't had much of a problem with that there yet. Lots of good info there about coins there also. I enjoy reading about coins and stay up way to late sometimes doing so. Tonite, I think I may take a sleeping pill so I can have a life tomorrow.
LOL Biker - I am working on it. Now back to the Kennedy Hair subject......... Last night I broke out my old Kennedy's (all 64's) and looked at them all through my loupe trying to determine what kind of hair they had. I swear it seems that most of them had the accented hair, but am calculating that I just can't tell! I am going to get a 2nd opinion on it tonite - or was wondering if anyone knew of another website that may have more info on this. What are the chances that most of mine would have the AH? Are they about the same in "common-ness"? Are they worth more, etc.? These are circulated and toned. A couple have ugly brown tone, but most are OK. Think I will sell the ugly ones.
I think they are only on the proof one's but i'm not 100% sure i'll say 95%sure. anyway they are worth a little more but not much more. Still a fun coin to keep your eyes open for.
If you really found a bunch of accented hair Kennedy halves, you really struck it. I'd be skeptical, though. Do have someone who knows Kennedy halves check them out for you, though. Even better would be to get ahold of one that you know to be the accented hair variety and compare it to your own.
