So I had a buddy retire last year. He is a customer, friend and fellow coin collector. Just made a surprise visit with a pile of goodies that we did some wheeling and dealing over. I am interested in this 1941 proof set. Just took a quick photo as I have a meeting to go to. Aren't the 1940's era proof sets rather pricey? I may owe this fellow some more cash.

This is a quick photo of today's haul. Haven't inventoried any of it quite yet. Rolls of wheats, Indians, walking halves, etc, etc....

Very nice purchases, especially the roll of standing liberty quarters.

Numismedia puts it at $1090, but says nothing about condition.

One in a Capitol holder sold for $785 on eBay earlier in the month.

One in OGP went for $830 (listed at $899, BO accepted).

Various slabbed sets went for $950-1100.

Not sure what the broader market has to say about these, but that counts as "pricey" by my standards, at least...

As previously stated, "pricey" is a subjective term. But to me, $1000 ballpark is pricey. Either which way, its not a set your gonna come across every day. If you didnt have to mortgage the house and sell the dog, id be excited to have that haul!!! Congrats!!!

I've had tough luck re-cooping my investment in 1942 and prior sets. I've never owned a 1936 or a 1937 but for the others liquidity seems to be an issue. I think i have a PCGS 67 set of the '42 and a PCGS OHG Slabbed '42 all in PR66 and i couldn't find a buyer for a few months and eventually gave up and brought them back to the safety deposit box. I really thought there were more fans (like me) of the OGH and Rattler Slabs then there are.. In my experience if you get them regraded you can get a point or 1.5 points added tot he grade. And since they guarantee there grades you know when you send it in it can't come back less than before. - Not everyone knows that i guess.
Also, on your '41.. i would send off that cent and that Walker but that's just me. You could pull a good amount of your $1000 investment just with a solid grade on the cent.
But, yeah - if this is your buddy i think you might own him a few bucks.
