I got another one...this time from an auction in Europe. Odd coin to spot there and it was somewhat overlooked as a variety. I've been looking for a decent one of these for YEARS. Just recently found a raw one in a Japanese auction that is barely XF and I bought it. Then this auction showed up and I paid barely more than what I'd gotten the raw one for.

And I was playing around trying to illustrate the large 4 aspect:

    small vs large 2.jpg
The yellow box is exactly the same size and I had set both coins the same size as well.

    And another illustration iteration:
    small vs large graphic.jpg

Curious if either of these graphics is more appealing--opinions or suggestions?

Here's a new pickup of mine with an interesting pedigree:

    Austria 1908 Corona
    60th Anniversary of Reign
    NGC MS64
    EX. Richard Placht Coll.

Richard Placht (1880-1962) was an engraver at the Vienna mint as of 1904, and would work his way up to mint director by 1914. So this coin, struck in 1908, was entirely produced during his tenure at the mint. Though an MS64 isn't that exciting in and of itself (I have an MS66 PL example of this type), it's interesting to consider that this may have been a specimen or early strike that he retained from his time working at the mint.

Just won this last night, so don't have it in hand yet. It is exceedingly difficult to find 1930s Irish silver in excellent condition like this. Only example of this year to be graded 66 by PCGS/NGC. This specific coin has been off the market for over 8 years, so I was going to bid whatever it took.

    Ireland 1935 Shilling, PCGS MS-66

Well, I finally went and splurged on a coin. I had to have the reckoning with the wife as the invoice of 75 EUR was visible on the outside of the FedEx package. :) It's all good, though; she was amazed a more than 2100-year-old silver coin in good shape only cost that much. It's my first ancient - I really wanted a denarius from the Roman Republic, and this caught my eye.

Rome, Denarius AR, M. Atilius Saranus, 155 or 154 BC. Obverse: head of Roma right in winged helmet, X to the left of head. Reverse: Victory in biga.

@jackrabb1t I made an account here just so I could say what a gorgeous coin you have there. I recently picked up a MS64+ and yours puts mine to shame haha.

Details coin? Yes, but for $3.25, I grabbed it! It’s in one of NGC’s conservation slabs, marked as: AU Details (cleaned) B70040FD-2463-457C-9925-A0D37BE2DC61.jpeg 512672AD-E390-45CB-B7D5-3B904B715409.jpeg

This arrived today. Haven't been able to tie down the exact issue. I am thinking Afghanistan. Looks like a date of either 12x3 or 123x. Weights 11.5g. I don't see a match in The Standard Catalog or Numista.

    edit; date could be 1230

Have you tried zeno.ru? I have found that to be the best place to identify such coins.

I did. I wasn't able to find a section for Afghanistan in this era. I'll go back and check again.

I have joined that site and can post pictures and descriptions of my unknown coins in the "Help in identification" section. Those guys are good! I suspect some of them can read the esoteric scripts on some of those old coins. I have been working through my 100 + ancient Indian type coins to get them properly attributed. I still have a long way to go, only 20 done so far. They do require coins pictures to be a certain way, side by side with white background. Here is an example. 1556-1605 Moh-horz.jpg
