If you have been a collector for some years and have gone shopping at the local brick and mortar stores and shows, you have probably seen some low grade Pole to Cap large cents. Usually their surfaces are rough, the obverse shows little more than an outline of Ms. Liberty and a date, and the reverse lettering is incomplete. What is lost is the fact that these are very attractive coins. Here is a 1794 Large Cent in Choice AU. PCGS graded it MS-62, Brown. When I view thi s coin, I can’t believe that something which looked this elegant was just a humble cent. It has a lettered edge, which required an extra step in the minting process. The piece is a Sheldon variety 21. It was once in the Byron Reed and Dan Holmes collections.
Absolutely gorgeous coin. Here’s mine s-61 and no the surfaces aren’t pristine but I still find the detail and coin attractive it kind of has a circam appearance my favorite year and design of any early copper
Beautiful. I wish mine had better surfaces but it’s still got a lot of meat and is actually better looking in hand I’d like to get a nice clean xf or au someday but there’s a lot of coins on my want list and too few funds lately
