There is just no way for such severe marks to just disappear with the lighting. There is too much metal displacement:
You’d have to be an idiot to think the two coins are the same coin. The Craig’s list poster is nothing more than your garden variety troll the seems to have snuck his little troll head in the back door here at CT. I can’t believe anyone at any TPG would risk his job for a lousy nickel what ever it’s value. I mean what would he do send it in to the competition to be graded. Don’t take the trolls bait.
Maybe, but the pic on the left has lighting around 9-10 o'clock. But the pic on the right has lighting around 12 o'clock, which could highlight those marks.
This thread has me, well choosing words carefully. Some of those words I have typed in just to see what my last post would look like on CT, but obviously I didnt post them cause then I'd have to go make an account over at CU. Okay, here's the deal, I have never seen so many peiple upset by a Craigslist ad. It's bleeping craigslist for crying out loud! There are more garbage ads there than there are real ones. Let me ask a question, If the CL ad were true, why doesnt the collector go to the forums to make his claim? CU would ban him immediatly most likely but if they were to remain civil here on CT maybe just maybe he could prove it better here. If this were true why CL? Heck if it was me and this actually happened, there are a few members here I would be contacting to take photos for me to help prove my case. Members more skilled with a camera than I. Imagine myself, owner of a shop and mechanic, falling for every bogus car ad on Craigslist. A 2015 Cadillac for only $2k... yeah that's a scam. Just like someone ripping on PCGS for switching a couple of Nickels. If it were true why CL? Why not a better platform like CoinTalk? Compare how many lunatics there are on CL and compare that to how many times PCGS has mixed up coins. Not saying PCGS or any TPG for that matter havent screwed up. But seriously? Some of you are trusting the words from an ad on a site that used to (possibly still is) cater to many, many unspeakable and illegal things. Things that i cannot say in order to keep things PG. Seriously, 4 pages? Use some common sense.
Why would he waste his time doing that, when he's already run the coin past "...a print/copy expert at staples, 2 coin dealer friends, one youtube coin expert, a laundrymat girl manager, people at the bust stop, and a marine diesel mechanic"?
It without a doubt in my mind is the same coin. Anyone who can take a clear picture before they send it in can do the same when it was returned. Instead it is quite obvious that the photo of the returned coin was intentionally taken out of focus in different light to hide the obvious. Sasquatch is in the house.
In all honesty part of what has been lost and people chasing dragoons. Where has anything been proven at all for the accusations? Aside from the PCGS is always wrong crowd the accuser has to prove it, a random post on social media is not proof at all.
I'm not defending PCGS, I'm rejecting his attempt to insult my intelligence. The OP only posted a facsimile of what was already posted on this forum, and I thought the same thing when I read it the first time.
It wouldn't if there were photos of each coin graded. Confusions and mistakes are much more frequent then any kind of absolute.
I would not use craigs list for anything there reputation speaks for its self I have purchased pcg certified coins since they first started .I have no complaints from the way they certify coins. I use my own way of deciding what my coins grade not all the fancy numbers and other things they put on the certification case .and they are close
That wouldn't stop tinfoil hate accusations that it wasn't what was sent. They've already said they're looking into doing that in the future but these types of claims are like someone saying they lost in Vegas on the strip because the casino was using magnetic dice. It's just pure nonsense but the accusations will happen no matter what
Actually you would prefer it to be nonsence. And that is what I find unbelievable. 99.99% of they time. Might as well call it 100%. You defend PCGS. That right there tells me that everything you say should be questioned. Defending either side in this situation is foolish. We don't have all the facts and never will. Lets just say I am more inclined to believe that something neffarious is going on than believe your beloved TPG can do no wrong.
Here is the proof that they are different coins. Taken further are the original Craigslist posters images of the two different coins. First image is the raw coin the second the coin in holder. The ding on the two coins are clearly in different places. Reed
I’m certain I know who you’re talking to, though I’ve put him on ignore. I personally don’t think the post is true, but we don’t have enough information to make a decision. The fact that one specific person thinks he can 100% tell us what happened here, should tell us all we need to know about how credible he is. Put him on ignore, it makes threads on TPGs much, much shorter.
