This popped up a little while ago on vcoins. I researched it and had my suspicions confirmed by @David Atherton . It is a very rare coin of Titus as Caesar with Secvritas seated on the reverse. This coin is sometimes confused with the much more common Pax seated reverse. On FAC in David's description he mentions that the way to tell it is Secvritas is if the arm is raised. On the Pax denarii an arm is extended with a branch. This coin is not in BMC or RSC. There is a record for it on OCRE with 0 examples given. There are none on Coryssa or Acsearch. (There is one example each but they are pax types and not Secvritas). There are 0 on CNG. It is also not on wildwinds. One example is referenced in the new RIC II. It was sold by Lanz in 1999. There is no plate for this coin. Imho the portrait is great. The coin obvious has a few problems but with coins this rare you have to take what you can get. Titus as Caesar 75 CE 20 mm 3.30 g Obv: Head laureate r; T CAESAR IMP VESPASIAN Rev: Securitas seated l; head resting on raised arm; PONTIF TR P COS IIII Ric 784 (R2) [Vespasian] BMC--, RSC-- Purchased from Zurquieh on vcoins; April 18, 2019
You see this misattribution with the corresponding Securitas denarii struck for Vespasian as well. Another opportunity to pick up a rare type at a decent price! Congrats on your rare Titus Andrew!
