Is this a metal detector that looks worthy?? any better ideas? any websites or links would be aprreciated! im looking in the 250 - 300 dollar range.. If its possible to get a good one in that range.. If any one has one they are looking at getting rid of, maybe PM me.
Wished you would of posted this sooner....lol I just sold one on ebay not too long ago. It was a older model, but it was still a Garrett. Happy Hunting
Tesoro is another good metal detector. I've owned quite a few metal detectors and I'd have to say Whites, Tesoro and Minelab are the best.
Probably shouldn't tell you about other coin forums but there is one called Coin Community Family that has a sub forum on just metal detectors.
Here is one that isn't a coin forum it is just strictly treasure hunting. it is www.treasurenet.com They should be able to help. I have owned a 250 and they are great!! Awesome machines. Tom
Snaz, buy the biggest and baddest machine you can afford, because I promise you once you get it, you'll want something better! lol I recently bought a Minelab X-Terra 50, and the more I read about detectors and detecting in general, the more I wish I spent the extra 200 bucks for the X-Terra 70! Just another case of the "grass in greener" syndrome I suppose. Oh, and if this is your first detector, you might want to checkout a place like KellyCo that offers package deals but you will end up paying brokerage and duty since you're in Canada. As for brand names, my next machine will probably be a Garrett. Maybe I've read one too many of his books and I'm buying into the propoganda, but you have to respect a man who's an avid treasure hunter and built a company around his "hobby".
I use a Fisher. My first one was a 1210 and the last one I bought quite a while back was a 1265x I paid $350.00 new. I've paid for both of mine with my finds. I imagine all the name brands are good. The secret to any metal detector is use headphones and use it often. You can develop and train your ear to recognize a lot of the signals. I wade with mine up knee deep water but I have to weight the head down as it wants to float. Get your self a water scoop with small holes. Make sure your recovery spots don't look like detonated land mines. Happy hunting, Greg
Like Treashunt, I prefer White's Metal Detectors! I have found a lot of stuff with them over the years, have owned the 2DB, 4DB, 2,000-D, 4,000-D and the 5,000-D and currently own a CoinMaster 6,000-D Series 2. They all have been great but wish I had kept my 2,000-D! I sent it back to White's shortly after purchaing it due to tuning and headphone jack problems. They made all of repair needed and even installed an upgrade for the Model and when I got it back, my friends that owned Garrett's were even impressed with the depth at which it would detect coins, rings and other items. I just got an MXT myself. I haven't had a chance to use it much but as soon as the creeks go down some I'm heading to the hills to see if I can't find any of that yellow stuff
Which ever one you purchase, make sure you use it while you can. Soon enough we all get to old and maybe to sick to run around searching for lost treasures. At my age I'm lucky to make it to a local restaurant for breakfast once in a while. Also, as civilazation closes in, there are less and less places you can use a metal detector. Good luck.
You are looking at a great Machine. I myself use a Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter II and it is in the price range that you are looking for.-
I have a White's Prism II that i got for Christmas - I have used it once - I like it so far - but I am very new at this. I went with whites b/c I had read that the 250 pinpoint feature did not work well, and that it could not be adjusted to soil conditions.
