well, seems that an arabic friend is so needed here and this coin should be turkey or egyptian, let me see...
Thank you for your help. I found the coin under Coin Types from India,Hyderabad km46a 2 Pai (AH1330-1349) at worldcoingalley.com I know nothing of old coins. Cheryl
It is a Hyderabad 2 Pai (Y35, not Y46a), the date appears to be AH 1325, though its difficult for me to see it properly, as it is crammed into the space above the bottom sweep of the toughra.
Y35 is a Yeoman designation, adopted by Krause instead of assigning their own KM#. The date on the coin is 13?5 in Arabic characters. If Ananthite's guess of 2 for the third character is correct, that's the After Hejira date which is equivalent to the period from February 14, 1907-February 4, 1908 on the western calendar. Usually it would simply be referenced as 1907. AH dates are measured from Mohammed's flight from Mecca, an extremely important event in Muslim theology. Many Muslim coins carry two dates known as the Accession and Regnal Year dates. The first would be the year the ruler ascended the throne, and the second would be the number of years he (always a he) had partially or fully completed. For example a date of AH1325-4 would be roughly equivalent to 1910.
This series goes from AH 1322-1329, so I deduced a '2' for the number that is difficult to make out. That is not an ascension year that I can tell, since it changes for each year of issue. However, the reverse is more specific as it does appears to read, starting at about 11 o'clock and moving CW: 'Minted of Hyderabad of happy foundation, (year) 41(?) of his reign associated with prosperity'. Thus in Krause you would reference the year 1325//41. Since Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II ascended in AH 1285, then the year of coin issue would be AH 1325.
