Should the mint bring back the 3 cent nickel.

No, but we desperately need a 4 cent nickel and a half dime.

The nickel today is not what it was fifteen years ago. Do you know what this country needs today?...A seven-cent nickel. Yessiree, we've been using the five-cent nickel in this country since 1492. Now that's pretty near a hundred years' daylight saving. Now, why not give the seven-cent nickel a chance? If that works out, next year we could have an eight-cent nickel. Think what that would mean. You could go to a newsstand, buy a three-cent newspaper and get the same nickel back again. One nickel carefully used would last a family a lifetime!

We can't get folks to use a dollar coin. Why would we expect people to confuse themselves with another denomination?

3 cent nickel would have an incredibly small face value. No one would use it, and, I agree with Randy- it would cause a great deal of confusion. That's the reason the $0.20 ceased to exist, so it's best to stick to standard coin denominations.

It's not about another coin which would be useful in commerce...it's about another coin to collect & find errors on. And if we're lucky, it will increase in value & make us all rich!!! Yay....:sorry::confused::(:yack::woot::smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin:

Why? you can't buy anything with nickel or a dime, and the quarter is barely viable. Why mint a worthless coin?

I've always thought they should just change the value of the current cent to two cents. All newer cents would have two instead of one.

You're missing the point...you have to put a truck load of them together, then you'll have enough to make a purchase...duh...:smug::p:smuggrin:...but think of all the more chances to find the elusive errors!!!:shame:;)

No, and we really do not need the cent or nickel anymore. I used to propose making a cent worth 5 cents and discontinuing the current nickel. Its been so long I will update the idea and say all cents should instantly be worth 10 cents, and we stop minting dimes and nickels. Then we have only 10 cent, 25 cents, and dollar coins. This would give us room in change drawers for $2 and $5 coins.

However, since it makes sense, it will never happen.

    No.

We gotta start somewhere, though...and we should can the Zincoln yesterday, say...1982.

There's the rounding problem to consider...American do not cotton to rounding...they don't like it and won't do it. Why? It's un-American! (for real, now it's Canadian).

The cent is too popular and in-grained into American culture. Using a better metal construction and revaluing does make sense, but there would be resistance from the status quo...Spark

FWIW, in Israel the smallest denomination is a "5 agorot" coin (100 agorot is 1 shekel).

On the other hand, the 5 agorot coin is worth about 1.5 cents American.

When I was a kid, my friends brother worked at a dry cleaners and was making $1.97 an hour. He comes home one day and says he got a raise. $1.98 an hour.

No there's something to this 3 cent nickel change.....you see it cost 8 cents to produce a nickel! So if you made a 3 cent nickel you be saving 5 cents!
Adjust for inflation ,and don't forget the more you mint ....the cheaper they are to produce......:wideyed: but wait:stop: would it not be a lot easier just to mint dimes?
Then you go to the bank pick up a roll of dimes a chisel and hammer.... and just cut the dime in half:)....or just use your debit card :shame:

Why not bring back the half cent?

They would have to mint them out of meringue to see a profit.

    And maybe not even then...
