its current storage area inside a gun safe? It's not going terminal and the colors are looking superb.
Gun safes are for guns not coins, damage can be done by storing coins in a safe made to house guns.chemicals in the safes inner material may damage your collection.
Yeah, should have said that, but give it a distilled water rinse before encapsulating it to see if you can get off whatever is on the horse's leg.
This. It's not terminal, but if it were my coin I wouldn't want the toning to progress further. I'd take it out of the gun safe and put it in an Air-Tite capsule in a more coin-friendly environment.
If I were you, I would immediately store it away in a coin holder or capsule and then research if it would be worth grading. It looks like a high grade coin, and with that toning, it could be valuable, so you would want it graded professionally and stored professionally in the holders they provide. I absolutely love the dotted toning!
Yes, it does and they are ugggglee. They mar an otherwise beautiful obverse. I really like coins with women in the design and this is a really nice portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. I'm glad the lines don't go across her face, but what is that on her lip?
It is not the safe that is the issue. Sulfur in gunpowder would be the culprit for causing such toning.
Acetone removes many organic contaminants but doesn't remove inorganic stuff. A distilled water rinse won't hurt and might help. Sorry about those die polish marks, if that side had the toning they would be less noticable.
