Hi all I purchased this coin while in China or Macao in 1985. It was the typical purchase for a tourist: dusty market of stalls, lots of locals shopping for exotic things. But my host who was a local and was my friend told me to buy it because it was called "Monkey Money" and supposed to bring luck. The implication was that it is very old. Having said that, I've had this in my home since and realize that I have no clue what it is. Can anyone help. I'm just interested to know. Thanks for any help you offer.
Hmmm, sure looks oriental/Chinese. I suspect it could be a lucky recipe charm for Chinese Eight Treasure Rice... Or not. Welcome to the forum. Ben
It is an early 21st century copy of something that was made in the 19th century, these are available for sale in souvenir shops all over China.
Just happened to stumble upon this while looking at paperback books my wife purchased yesterday at Borders. Notice the coin/token on the cover, I'll bet your answer can be found within these pages. http://images.google.com/imgres?img.../images?q=rembrandt%27s+ghost&um=1&hl=en&sa=N
