Well I went back into the bank to make a deposit, and I guess while I was talking to the teller the BANK MANAGER over heard my great success with the last bag of kennedy halves. So now I am no longer allowed to buy bags directly from the bank. I can only buy boxes that come in from the fed. So I guess that well ran dry really fast
Is it even legal for them to bar you like that? If you're really mad, as I would be, make a fuss and say you'll pull your account.
Well their reasoning behind it is,,,,,they say that the counted bags after they are sealed have to do back to the fed to be counted by them. If there is an error like under or over counting the fed charges the back for the error. If I take a bag and it was short them it my word against theirs. Does anyone know for SURE if a bank can refuse to sell you coins by the bag?????Thanks
Congrats on the find btw. But you know what they say, "Loose lips sink ships". Sadly, I think there are always people who are looking to get one over on people who come into some good fortune. You'll know to keep your luck under wraps the next time, just share it with us since we don't know where you live...
Unless there is a law requiring a business to do a certain thing, the decision on whether or not to do it is up to the business. In 20 years as an active bank/finance company attorney I never became aware of any law requiring the sale of coins by the bag.
That really sux. You've got to look on the bright side though. You got one unbelievable haul- you got more in one bag than some folks will find in a lifetime of searching. Andy
I just got off the phone with the Regional office, and I was told that as long as the bank has the coins on hand that they HAVE to give them out. As long as the bags are filled and sealed. There is one problem though, I just talked to the cute little girl that works there and she always helps me out and is SUPER nice........ and shes all nervous about getting in trouble. Then again she does have to go to work there every day. I dont want to make things unbearable for her either. I just dont understand how a bank manager can give the wrong information. What do you think I should do?????
u already made your fortune enjoy it and stop worrying about dryig the well. whatever is in your destiny will happen
Confront the manager of the bank with the regional information. Leave the teller out of it. The manager probably wants the coins because of your good fortune. I had something similar a while back when I found the Adams double dollars. I fixed that real quick when I simply said close my accounts. Oh and by the way while we are at it, close my business accounts as well. Now I get first class treatment there.
First thing you should do is buy her a nice bouquet of flowers as a thank you. Secondly, lay low from this bank for a while as not to stir anything up and find another connection at another branch. Good luck.
Well I did get her a Starbucks card with 50.00 on it. And then 2 more for 25.00 for the two other tellers that were there that day.
If I were you I would also tell the manager that you won't ever complain if a bag is short, that leaves him with one less thing to be hesitant about and realistically I think it would be very, very unlikely that you would ever get any short amount back anyways.
This is what I would do as well. Now.... I would endeavor to deal with the manager DIRECTLY. Jobs are getting harder to find so I really understand your sentiment here. So turn the tables on Mr. Manager. You've already spoken to HIS supervisor and "things" flow downhill don't they? Program his bosses number into your cell phone and if he's not "cooperative" just call his boss. RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. Betting he would be easier to deal with and leave the teller alone.
General, you already made out pretty well at the expense of someone else. I'd just let it go. You don't have a right to go into a bank and ask for a particular coin or bag of coins. That isn't their business. Just leave the teller alone and let the manager run the business.
Very true but in some cases it does work. This guy is showing his hand as being a bully wouldn't you say? So how do you handle this bully if he is possibly breaking company policy? Put it back in his face in front of a lot of people (even though they won't know why actually). Yes, he may retaliate but it would be in his worst interest. If he has ANY management skills he will take his lumps and go on. He may need HIS job worse than the teller.
I agree with Clembo on this one! The Manager cannot refuse to allow a Customer to purchase sealed bags of coins as long as it is not in violation of the Bank's policies and apparently from the information that you received from the Regional Manager, it is not. Also, as long as the Teller is not violating the Bank's policies, then the Manager cannot interfere with her duties which is serving Bank customers. Although while you hold the upper hand in this situation, I would instruct the Teller not to do anything that would get her in trouble with the Manager but if she can hold some coins for you, you would be very appreciative! Give her the understanding that she will be rewarded for her extra effort but to keep this agreement secret as it may be viewed as a conflict of interest. You might even ask her if she can call you as soon as possible after a hoard of coins or rolls of coins comes in. In this manner, you might be able to purchase the coins or rolls of coins before they are bagged and sealed which is not in violation of this particular Manager's wishes. Good luck...Frank
Sounds like the bank manager may now want to hoard the coins for themself. Yesterday I did my local bank run. During the run, I found a previously unknown branch location in my town. I went up to the teller and introduced myself and what I was doing and looking for - she said good luck, doubt you will find anything here since the bank manager goes through all the draws and change collections looking for the same thing first. I will keep on trying.
