I found this coin yesterday. It appears to be a quarter that was accidentally made , as a penny. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated . View attachment 920639 20190412_102914.jpg

What you have is a heavily corroded quarter, not an error. It’s worth 25 cents. Spend it before it disintegrates.

It's weight is identical to that of a penny.

@paddyman98 digs those kind of quarters up all the time as he is an avid metal detector guy.

@Jennifer McDonald .. Listen carfully. As stated before that is a damage Quarter. It looks like it was dipped in acid and the clad layer was worn away exposing the copper core. The mushiness to it all is evidence of this.
You do not have a Mint Error.

Given the diameter is not the same as a penny, are you sure? If this is the diameter of a penny, then the mint didn't make it, (all quarter dies are "quarter sized"). If it is the diameter or a quarter, it would have to be horribly thin to be equal in weight to a cent. Did you weigh it?

Take a picture of it next to a penny. You will see the size difference.
If this was minted on a penny sized planchet (blank metal disc used to make the coin) the edges/rims of the quarter would not go all the way around because the penny is much smaller.

It's been soaked in acid. Occasionally I would soak coins in nitric acid in the college chem lab years ago and yours looks just like them
