1993 D lincoln cent

Can someone tell me what is that covering the top of head. It also has some MD on the date and on the reverse.

what's the composition?

Do you see similar affects across the letters above the head, also in the date ?

Die Deterioration and plating issues
Look at your one picture again
Look at the inside top of the N (IN), inside the G, bottom inside of the O, D, between the W, inside the R, lower part of U, S
around the head as you mentioned, all along the forehead, nose, etc.
Also anomalies above the lettering. Not quite split plating but getting there.

 

Is It worth keeping?

Unless you're like me and just plain hoard all of your change no matter what.

 

I am a hoarder of coins. Especially the cool looking coins. Like the gold rope chain on the of lincolns head.lol

 

It's a spender. Looks like plating issues and that is very common.
