What do u call this where the color looks distorted . I see a few different colors red green green purple also the back of coin looks capped is this an error?
No it is not a Mint Error. The color change is Environmental Damage and everything else is Post Mint Damage. You can't grade, attribute nor sell your Dime.
I agree. I cannot think of a possible event where the US mint creates an error by corroding a coin, and scraping it along a pavement.
Occasionally, even unopened rolls contain circulated coins. I once got a roll of quarters with a new wrapper containing circulated coins from the 90s and 00s. Your coin was definitely damaged outside the mint.
I voted that you need more information about grading and selling so you can tell what type/condition of coin could be graded or sold. Grading first. Selling later. Hey guys, what's a good source for Corrina to learn about grading?
Can u also send me more information on missing clad errors which I think I may have a few as well as cap die or bottle cap dimes .. also question can a roll of dimes have several different dates of all or mostly cap die or bottle cap errors ?
Corrina, those are all questions beyond my capabilities to answer. There's an old saying " Google is your friend. " Use google to search for "capped die errors" and/or "bottle cap errors" and read what you find. Here's some info on grading :PCGS Photograde Online - Estimating Coin Grades Has Never Been Easier Here's some more :Sheldon_coin_grading_scale Here's some on errors : www.error-ref.com/ More on errors :http://www.error-ref.com http://www.coinnews.net/tools/error-coin-price-guide-with-mint-error-photo-descriptions/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mint-made_errors http://www.coinfacts.com/error_coins/error_coins.htm That should be enough to get you started.
I think you should learn how coins are made before you start looking for errors. Otherwise, you're likely to think that every coin you find in circulation is an error. Chris
@Corrina, use this link to learn about how coins are made and also about worthless doubling. Just look on the upper left side at the topic list and choose Worthless Doubling. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties Follow the links through the topic and read all of it. It won't take that long. I reread it myself tonight.
