I can't see how it would be wear... Is it not strange that the "wear" is in the shape of a perfect circle?
It looks like a very warn out thick rim. I just went through 300 dollars of dimes and found more then a few like that. On another note. It could have been a slight error, I see some MD on the date. Whats the reverse look like?
I agree with Jason. The "wear" is unnatural looking. The wear on the head is too flat and the junction between the worn perimeter and the design is too abrupt.
Here is a picture of the reverse. I did not notice the upper right portion of the rim until I scanned the coin.
Drop a cent or dime on a concrete sidewalk. Step on the coin and drag it across the concrete for a few feet. Place the coin back in circulation. That is my guess as to what happened to your dime.
