Do you think in the deep future there will be for some reason Martian coinage on planet Mars such as collectable coins, what will be on that coinage?

I think there will be commemorative coins from the US mint about the first human landing on mars in my lifetime.

Obverse will be a man with an Aluminum Foil hat. The reverse will say Valid Only on Mars.

The cost of setting up a mint in Mars would be too astronomical. Instead transactions would be in terms of Mars bars. Perhaps by then, all transactions would be electronic.

I would say to send that question to Rod Serling, but he bid us aloha a number of years ago.

There is already a collectible coin on Mars. One of the rovers up there has an Unc 1909 VDB cent attached to it. (Used to judge chemical reactiveness of the atmosphere) At least one of the deep space probes has a couple of state quarters attached it it (Used to adjust trim balance)

I’d be REALLY surprised if physical currency was used in a Mars colony. The colony would be so high-tech that the need for a physical currency would be virtually nonexistent. Plus you’d have to deal with the transportation of minting equipment/physical currency, which would NOT be cheap to send into space. The costs FAAAAAR outweigh the benefits here.

And thought to be a very rare inverted West Point mint mark error.

I am divided on whether when retrieved it will be toned. I do hope they used an MS coin. Water vapor is present but the radiation should be intense. Reminds me of the "experiment" mention here about acetone on copper alloy. Jim

The gravity is about a third of what we have on earth. Might have to be careful with a coin flip. It would probably go 50 feet in the air. Wonder if paper money would try to float?

Looks like dust/dirt, not sure what to call it. The image from 2014 shows little to no damage. Hope they can bring the coin back home at some point.

There have been threads of ppl showing coins that clearly, have had martians depicted on them. usually on top of, and running between the columns of the lincoln memorial.

Just search, and 'ye shall find them on CT.
BTW, all BU coins of course ...
