Hey all, does anyone have any insight that they would like to share about this 1919 penny. It looks to me like the T in United is off for some reason. Is this a rarity or normal for that period? Worth? Thanks for the help.
Looks like that "T" took a hit during all the adventures and wear that coin has seen since 1919. (about 100 years!). In other words, that "off" T you see was damage that occurred to the coin after it left the mint. By the way...Welcome to CoinTalk @Kevin Humphries
Also, @Kevin Humphries - Your "penny" might be worth a little more than face value; but, I don't think anyone could tell you what the value might be without seeing clear well-lit photographs of both sides of the coin. Who knows... if our CT experts see the whole coin, they might identify something interesting in the coin that you do not. (I am not an expert. I am a student.)
I don't collect pennies! I don't collect PMD! This coin happens to be both! It's only worth one cent to me! Chris
@Kevin Humphries ...copper is a soft metal and even small collisions moves the design around. I can easily imagine this penny being in the field pack of a US Army soldier as he fought in The Battle of the Bulge during WW2...Spark
Yes Welcome Kevin. You'll love it here. Ok, so I looked at his coin and I can c what ya'll are saying. And just a side note here, please excuse me for this, but we are PANSIES today, compared to those who endured or even gave all in WWI or WWII huh? But then again you can probably say that for every generation that came before us. Ok, back to issue at hand. What do you think this pic is all about? This is very strange to say the least. Thanks Dug I'll try to take a better picture in a minit. I didn't see it at first, but I know it's not just a lighting illusion. I just happened to be checking out the cent and saw the P there. Whatdyathink? Lol thnx
@FooFighter ...maybe a dropped letter from PLURIBUS? BTW...better to start a new thread, you'll get more help...Spark
Yea i will Spark. Thank you for the help. As you can see, I got a Lil sidetracked in my reply. I'm all over the place today. I hope i didnt upset anyone out there. I didn't intend to hijack Kevin post. It just seemed similar to my coin. Later ya'll
