Pretty soon we're gonna have to give you a new avatar - maybe something like the Energizer Bunny - he just keeps going and going and going
The "king-in-ship" motif began, if I am not mistaken, with the English 14th century coinage. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces55916.html I understand there was a lot of borrowing of coinage ideas between the English and Dutch as they were connected via the wool trade.
If not the Energizer Bunny, how 'bout King Midas or King Solomon, Bond nemesis Gold Finger or just a pic of Fort Knox. I could spend days just looking at his collection.
Exactly true. Edward III had these struck to commerate the English naval victory over French fleet at Sluys in 1340. It was the initial engagement in Hundred Years War. The design has Edward III in his flagship, with sword. It was later copied by Dukes/ Counts of Flanders/ Barbant/ Hainault (Burgundy)
I hope you are right Our snow will be FINALLY gone by middle of April. I never got my Fall cleanups/leaves done in 2018 (we had snow that stayed on Nov. 8th!) So, I hope I am in good enough shape to get that done, plus Spring work, before grass starts growing I will have to go full bore for next 7+ months..... John
Nice to have such a nice coin from the period of the Dutch Republic's global preeminence too. Great history behind it.
