I have even tried to see if it was done with a hammer or other tools and nothing came out anything near this coin! Any thoughts on what could have caused this! The left side on the reverse of the building looks more like the center of the building but crooked! Interesting if anything!

That nickel is badly, badly damaged.

Does it look like something that would
    have been minted like that?

    It's DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged

Only the very bored person who did it would know why it looks the way it does :yack:

Mangled after leaving the mint. Spend it...if you can.

There is nothing to study here! The coin has been mashed, smashed, mangled, strangled....you name it....there are gazillions of ways that a coin can be damaged, both intentionally and accidentally, while in circulation.

If there is a wishing well at your local mall, let your son throw it in and make a wish.

My reason for spending the time on the coin was to try and narrow down what was used as parts are mashed others indented and missing you can see letters where there isn’t suppose to be letters so it just had my curiosity! No time lost I enjoyed every minute of it, I like to keep my mind occupied I guess

If you learned something, and more important, if you enjoyed the research process, then it was worth it. As you learn more about errors and the minting process, your research will get more efficient.

Look up Wexler's Doubled Die site for more info on the minting process. Read that, and you'll see why your coin can't be an error. Other good sites are Variety Vista and error-ref. Like anything new, it takes time and study to be proficient. Best of luck

most definitely! I didn’t think it could have left the mint that way... But one of the best ways to get any kind of knowledge or reference is to ask those who have that knowledge! Thank you for the recommendation I greatly appreciate it!
