I know that next year, the cent is supposed to change, commemorating Lincoln's 2000th birthday. I was just wondering, being that thats only 9 months away, have they unvieled the new look?
9 months is a lifetime for the mint. they have SOOOOOO many products out now, they can barely keep up. Look for any proposed designs a few months oyt from issuance. i woudl be deeply surprised to see them out sooner!
Sorry, hate to nitpick but, er it's only his 200th lol... his 2000th birthday won't be until 3809... As to your question, I've seen proposals, but haven't heard any word of them finalizing anything yet.
According to Coin World the Commission of Fine Arts rejected all the proposed reverse designs. They felt all the proposed designs were too detailed for a small coin (and I agree).
Well one thing is for sure. Whatever designs that they choose for 2009, its the death of the Lincoln Memorial. In 2010 there will be another new design, and it should stick.
I think that they should go back to the wheat back or something along those lines. Something simple and clean.
Sorry, the law that gave us the four reverse designs for 2009 mandated that the new reverse after 2009, if the cent is still produced, have a design symbolic of Lincolns holding the union together. No simple wheat ear reverse design.
dime is lonely people talking about cent, and collect dollar, half dollar, quarter and nickel. the only left aside is the dime. it seems very people collect them. that is why the mint never produce dime for collector except set. but be sure to collect some of it. it seems the price of dime is very expensive now.
I dont have much to say along the lines of what the design is going to look like for the 2009 or 2010 cent. But I do know that its going to drive the prices for wheaties up and everything before them. Although I feel copper melt prices are not going to move to much in the market. ( -Reason- )There are some new/old mines being open and reopen soon. So all the hoarding pre 82s is pretty much pointless at the moment. But I will tell you whats going to really jump in price. As if you all didnt already know. Any and all 1909 Cents. I say they double in price. Anyone agree? ALSO I dont not see the penny going away anytime soon. Infact i bet its got at very least 10 years maybe 20 years left.
How about a wheat back for 2009 only and V.D.B. located where it was in 1909? Short run on the S mint marks also.
Already said it on these forums. I think is a great idea. But some one I someone shot the idea down. I would really be happy to see a New obverse and a revised reverse. That would be a very interesting coin for sure.
