Hmm, "last"? Maria Theresia died in 1780, but the Holy Roman Empire existed until 1806 - with Habsburg and Habsburg-Lorraine emperors. And the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy (Habsburg again) went on until 1918 ...

that's the official consensus.....not that i agree with it myself, i've bought other coins in the past because they were Hapsburg descendants...Maximilian of Mexico, for example...not to mention 2 of her sons were holy Roman emperors..

 

Here's a 20 Kreuzer from 1787, with Joseph II, still a Habsburg.

Awesome! Having a high percentage of Hungarian bloodline, I should probably expand from my US coin interests. I love "experienced" coins & imagine the stories that one could tell!

 

..why yeah you should!..could be kinfolk .. i'm like you i like 'experienced" coins..and they're not really that much per coin that way either...
