Looked to be XF to me. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1865-Two-C...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
That auction is over, hope you didn’t buy it. That is not, to me, a XF grade two cent piece. Even with those fuzzy pictures. You can to better.
I’ve studied the two cent piece for years... My Exhibit Of two cent pieces won Best Of Show at the Michigan State Numismatic Society Convention a couple years ago.
When I started collecting, a Two Cent Piece with no “WE” showing was a Good. Now this one is probably graded Fine. It also has rim damage to boot. When I was a dealer I could still buy and sell pieces with a strong “WE” as EFs. 1865 is a super common date in the series. You can do better than this if you are looking for the type. The rule of thumb for Two Cent Piece rarity is the later the date, the better the date.
“Solid candidate to be graded”.... that’s a bit of a stretch on the seller's part and could certainly be construed as misleading even if he tried to qualify it. Even though he said he doesn’t take returns, this is eBay so if unhappy simply send it back.
Great for you. But maybe it would be more helpful to the OP if you explained why you think it’s not XF?
I think it would grade VF35. Nice original coin. You didn't get ripped off. I like it. Nice color and would look great in a type set.
THAT coin does flirt with the EF-40 grade although I would be inclined to grade it VF-35. The OP link led to an eBay offering that appeared to have no "WE" showing.
This often happens when the item shared has been sold and eBay redirects you to the “next closest thing”.
The link leads to the original item (The listing you're looking for has ended.) - to see the coin in question, look to the right and click on 'view original item' - then you will see the real deal (The cheap $8 coin with the rim ding and no WE has nothing to do with this thread or the OP's coin)
You can also screen capture the image and post it as a picture here rather than a raw link. Makes it quicker to look at and avoids the misunderstanding and ongoing dialogue that ensued.
I want to see your exhibit. Can you start another thread and post pictures? Or if you have already done this, a link?
I understand what you are saying but the pics on that listing we’re just too poor to have any kind of meaningful discussion.
